Online Resources

The Literacy Shed – visual resource for teachers to use in literacy lessons
I use this site for its animated video in media literacy lessons or to inspire writing lessons. They used to have an excellent icon for photographs, which I can’t find anymore. However, I’ve created 21 pages of my own. I use these to discuss inference, writing with detail, showing not telling, and to engage background knowledge.

Into the Book – reading comprehension resource for teachers, plus interactive for students

Corbett Harrison – writing lessons and ideas
This site is written for middle school teachers, but this husband/wife team has such creative ideas that are still relevant. I subscribe to his emails for ideas.

WritingFix – Fantastic Mentor Text lessons and 6 + 1 Traits
Need I say more – I could not teach without mentor texts. Picture books are snack size literature with meal-size literature components.

Mrs. Judy Araujo – Reading specialist with a plethora of book specific ideas
